Eddies15-26db2zf

The Fielder Library blog has been nominated for best library blog of the year! Please visit edublogawards.com/vote-here  and scroll down to the “best library blog” category. You can vote once a day until next Wednesday, December 16th.

From the site – “The purpose of the Edublog awards is to promote and demonstrate the educational values of these social media.  The best aspects include that it creates a fabulous resource for educators to use for ideas on how social media is used in different contexts, with a range of different learners. It introduces us all to new sites that we might not have found if not for the awards process.”

Busy December!

The next few weeks will be really exciting in the library! During the weeks of November 30th and December 7th, all K-5 classes will participate in The Hour of Code during library classes. Sponsored by www.code.org, these lessons will introduce students to the concept of computer programming through gaming.

All 4th graders will receive an author visit on Thursday, December 3rd in the afternoon. Kelly Milner Halls will discuss the wonders of research and being a non-fiction author. You can learn more about her at http://www.wondersofweird.com/

We will have our final Bluebonnet Read Aloud of the year on Thursday, December 10th at 7:45am. The book will be Grandfather Gandhi. Please arrive between 7:40 and 7:45.

There will be a one day book sale at Breakfast with Santa on December 12th from 8:30-12:00. It is through Southwest Books. Stop on by to find a perfect gift for the holidays!

Pumpkin Extravaganza

It’s time for Fielder’s annual Pumpkin Extravaganza!

There are two big rules:

1. No carving (we don’t want a stinky library)

2. Must be a book character. You do not have to bring a copy of the book, just be able to tell Mrs. Counterman what book your pumpkin character comes from.

Pumpkins can be dropped off at the library any time this Monday-Friday, but they must go home by Friday at 4:00. Any leftover pumpkins will be discarded. All student participants will receive a brag tag for their spirit chain at the end of the week.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I hope that everyone had a restful and relaxing summer! The theme this year is “The Power of One,” and that is especially true for the library. One book can spark an idea. One character can provide inspiration. One series can hook you to reading for life. I can’t wait to hear about all of the books you discovered this summer and look forward to sharing my new favorites with you!
